Reno – Although not as big as Las Vegas, Reno is well known for its casinos, and is the home of the Harrah’s chain of casinos. Reno is also home to the oldest college in the state, University of Nevada, Reno that was established in 1886.
Las Vegas – Las Vegas is the gambling capitol of the world. Many people flock to the city to get married as well as to gamble, eat and drink. Despite some debate on the city’s unfriendly feel toward families, Las Vegas remains one of the nation’s most popular and well-known tourist spots.
Carson City – Carson City is the capitol of Nevada. It is home to the Nevada State Museum and the Nevada State Railroad Museum. The city was founded when people were mining for silver in the 1800’s.
Sparks – Sparks remained a small, quiet city until around the 1950’s when people flocked near the city to come to Reno. Since then, it has grown immensely and now houses some small casinos and is currently undergoing a large housing boom.
Henderson – Henderson is the second largest city in Nevada. It is also considered to be one of the fastest growing cities in the country. Currently, Henderson has a population of around 175,400.
White Pine – White Pine is home to the Great Basin National Park. The city was named after a commonly found tree in the woods around the same area. Once, White Pine was a very popular place for copper mining.
Beatty – Beatty is located very close to Death Valley. The city was named after a rancher who lived there in the 1800’s. Beatty is located on the Armagosa River.
Clark County – Although many people think of Clark as part of Las Vegas, it is its own city. Clark County does have over 150,000 motel and hotel rooms, and it is the home of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Churchill – Churchill was named after a General who fought in the Mexican American War. The city was established in 1861. The city is one of a very few number of cities in the country who still operate their own telephone carrier.
Nye – ninety-two percent of the city of Nye is still owned by the US Government. The US has proposed to use Nye as a nuclear waste facility and is currently the home of a US nuclear testing site.
