Most scientists believe that Africa is where mankind originated, and was home to the original species of homosapien. Although Africa’s natural beauty and wildlife attracts tourists from all over the world, the country is still considered to be one of the poorest. Many people in Africa need food, clothing, and medical care. A lot of political activists and even stars (such as U2’s singer Bono) are proactively working to assist the country of Africa with basic needs and medicines. Over 1,000 languages are spoken in Africa, ranging in tribal native tongues to English. The average life expectancy in Africa is about 45 years old. Africa’s major exports include gold, diamonds, coal, and manufactured products.

Many beautiful animals call Africa home, including the African elephant, giraffe, lions, zebra, and cheetah to name a small few. Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest point. Many people believe it is a mountain, but in reality Kilimanjaro is an active volcano. Nigeria is the most populated country within Africa. Because of its rainforest density, Africa has become the world’s fastest growing country dealing with deforestation. Many people are trying to save the remaining rainforests there, because many rare plants and animals live within its borders. Africa also has a great deal of desert, and the Sahara is located there. Christmas is not celebrated in Africa, but the holiday of Kwanza is, which is also celebrated by many Americans as well. The country of Africa is rich in resources, history, and culture, and is a treasure for the entire world to behold. Africa remains an important element in the world’s development and past.
