Turkey tends to experience a large amount of earthquakes. A large earthquake in 1999 claimed the lives of 18,000 people. It has been said the Turks were the ones to introduce coffee to Europe. The first University in recorded history is located in Harran, Turkey. The famous Trojan Wars took place in Turkey, along with where Julius Caesar was said to have quoted his famous line, “Veni, Vidi, Vici” (I came, I saw, I conquered). The city of Anatolia in Turkey is said to be the birthplace of Santa Claus, the poet Homer, and King Midas, among others.
