Laconia – Famous actor Claude Rains was once a resident of Laconia, and died there in 1967. The city is known as a resort center and is located on several different lakes. Cheshire – Cheshire was named for the English city of the same name, and was established in 1771. The city has a population of around 73,825 according to the 2000 US Census. Coos – The city of Coos is the Indian word for “pine trees” and is actually pronounced using two syllables.
