Bloomington – Bloomington is located in the main campus of the University of Indiana. Many of the buildings there are built with limestone that comes from the state. Bloomington is part of Monroe County, which has the Monroe County Courthouse and is known for having one of the most beautiful college campuses in the country. The city is the hometown of Axl Rose and the band Blind Melon. Terre Haute – Terre Haute, Indiana was once a very large coal mining area as well as a hub for many railroads. The city is home to Indiana State University. Terre Haute currently has a population of about 60,000 people. Anderson – Anderson has changed from a village to a town many times in the past, but in 1950 it was officially considered a town permanently. There have been many different inventions in Anderson including the discovery of natural gas, which made the city’s population boom in the early 1900’s. Evansville – Evansville is the home of the very first Sears department store. The city hosts Indiana’s largest and oldest zoo, the Mesker Park Zoo. Many baseball scenes from the movie A League of Their Own were filmed in Evansville. Southbend – Southbend, Indiana was the home of the Studebaker car. It is also the home of the Singer Sewing Company. South Bend has a population of around 108,000 according to the 2000 US census. Richmond – Richmond is considered by many to be the birthplace of jazz, because many original jazz recordings were made in the city. Richmond is the headquarters of the Quaker religion.
