In the 1960s, developers began to build on the island and today it is a wonderful place for art, shopping, dining, and entertainment. Currently, about 48,000 people inhabit the island of Hilo. Ford Island – Ford Island, Hawaii is only 450 acres large, but it is a sight of a lot of significance. Several US Presidents have visited there, and it is the site of a monument to the USS Utah. Ford Island is considered to be a National Historic Landmark. Kauai – Kauai is the fourth largest island of Hawaii. It is considered to be the spot on earth with the heaviest amount of rain, with an average of 460 inches of rain per year. Kauai is another very popular tourist destination where you can kayak, go to a luau, or play golf on its beautiful golf courses. Lihue – Lihue is a booming island that is quickly becoming modernized, with stores such as K Mart, Home Depot, and even a Macy’s being built there in recent years.
