Dover – Dover is the capital of Delaware. It hosts the Dover Downs International Speedway, where NASCAR drivers compete twice a year. Dover is also the home of Delaware State University and Wesley College, and has a wonderful opera house where events are held year-round.
New Castle – New Castle, Delaware is a large city located at the northernmost tip of the state. Rehoboth Beach – Rehoboth Beach is a largely popular vacation destination, and many residents of Washington, D.C. enjoy coming to its shores. Rehoboth Beach is also well known for its gay and lesbian population. The city gets its name for a biblical term meaning “a place for us all”.
Wilmington – Wilmington is the largest city in the state of Delaware. It is known as the first US city to use surveillance cameras to help deter crime and to identify criminals. Many large National banks’ headquarters such as MBNA and Chase are located in Wilmington.
Dewey Beach – While less than one mile long, Dewey Beach is a hot spot for tourists from all over the East Coast. Dewey Beach is full of nightclubs, restaurants and bars, making it one of the state’s fastest growing areas.
Middletown – Middletown was the location for filming the popular Robin Williams movie Dead Poets Society. Each August, Middletown hosts its annual peach festival. The city is small, with a population of just over 6,000 people.
Lewes – Lewes was the first European settlement in Delaware. Like many other cities in Delaware, Lewes is considered an ocean resort town. The city also has a ferry service, which transports people across the cape.
Millsboro – Although a very small city, Millsboro’s claim to fame is that it has held both the record for the highest and lowest temperature for the entire state. Almost 11 percent of Millsboro is covered by water.
