Little Rock – Little Rock is the capital of Arkansas, as well as the largest city in the state. Little Rock is also the hometown of former president Bill Clinton, putting it on the map. It is located on the south bank of the Arkansas River. Magnolia – Magnolia, Arkansas is home to Southern Arkansas University. Hope – Although Bill Clinton is known to be from Little Rock; he was actually born in Hope, Arkansas. His famous line in his acceptance speech, “I believe in a place called Hope” helped give the city recognition. It is also known for its annual watermelon festival, which takes place each August. Murfreesboro – Murfreesboro, Arkansas is home to the Crater of Diamonds State Park, where diamonds were discovered in 1906. Even today, visitors are encouraged to look for diamonds and may take home anything they find there. Hillary Clinton wore diamonds from Murfreesboro to several Inaugural Balls. Texarkana – Texarkana is named because it borders three US States: Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana. The city’s post office is located on the border of both Arkansas and Texas. It was also the name of a song on REM’s popular album, “Out of Time”. West Memphis – West Memphis is home to Sonny Boy Williamson II, a famous blues singer who wrote a song about the town. It also known for the killings of three children in 1993, and the murderers were known as the West Memphis 3. There are just under 28,000 residents living in West Memphis. Hot Springs – Hot Springs is known for is natural spring water that flows from the ground and produces hot water at an average temperature of 147 degrees. This has made Hot Springs a very popular spa town, spurring economic and population growth. Pocahontas – Pocahontas, Arkansas still has some historic buildings standing, including the Old Randolph County Courthouse, built in 1871. It is still known as the town’s center.
